Craft Chat: Writing & Directing with Micah Martinez

ASGmax Films latest feature “End Of Your World” has been a unique treat for ASGmax members, and anyone who loves wildly creative porn!

As we near the tail end of this project, what better than to hear about it from the man whose (fake)blood, sweat and tears are all over this one; Micah Martinez!

This project was borne of Micah’s creative energy and pure love of these genres. For a little deeper dive, let’s hear from the man, himself!

Interview with Micah Martinez

This is your very first time directing a feature for ASGmax. What’s that mean to you? How do you feel previous content has prepared you to take on such an epic project?

To me it’s a big deal. I’ve done featurettes, I’ve helped on other feature projects, but this is my second feature EVER so it’s a huge honor to me that it’s with a company that’s shown me nothing but respect and kindness since I started working here. Such a big undertaking meant, for me, taking alllll that I know and really taking my time and executing it. This is one of those projects that I know is supposed to be longer, bigger and more badass, so I really made sure to do that for this one!

Not only did you direct, but you wrote all four scenes! Tell us your inspiration for “End Of Your World”

Well, I’m a spooky boy. Not that I’m nihilistic, but I am not afraid about “the end” or what that looks like. One of these ideas I purposely was looking for a way to make into a featurette and luckily when Jeremy Babcock read it, he told me to expand on it and see how far I could take it. I said “challenge accepted.”

How would you describe the genre for this project? Thriller? Horror? Comedy? A mix of everything?  How did you connect to the themes on this project personally?

The genre of this is purposely a mix of everything. We go from a more drama centered zombie tale of two best friends to a campy, funny vampire’s apprentice story, to a bloody slasher that OPENS with one of our most popular models licking blood off of a knife.

I wanted to hit different genres of horror with this to show the versatility of the horror genre, even in porn.  Also I wanted to show that I could do several different kinds of directing styles. It’s not often that I get to show off, so I wanted to do that with this.

In terms of connecting to it, a big thing that goes through all of these scenes, the “message” I would like to convey to the audience at home: Do you want your world to end with regrets or things left unsaid?

How did  you approach the concept and writing for each scene? What inspired you?

It’s All Over – This is the original concept that started it all. I liked the quiet isolation of it all, I enjoyed the ability to really let our models show off their acting talents. Most importantly though, I wanted to take a concept that us here at ASGmax and gay porn as a whole use so frequently: what if you ended up fucking your best friend? What if the LAST thing you could do together was to have that intimate moment and really go for it, would you do it?

The Promotion – This one I got to be silly as hell and I loved it. I have worked with both Ryder and Noah (and our extra Benvi) so much that I KNEW they could ace it. Having Noah be the seductive Vampire and Ryder be the oblivious familiar was a blast. Writing it I really wanted to lean into the funny aspects of “What We Do in the Shadows” and have it be a full tilt sexy comedy that happened to have a fair amount of blood.

Not Who You Thought – I love a slasher, from “Scream” to the original first horror movie I’ve ever seen “A Nightmare on Elm Street” I love the who-done-it aspects of it as well as the tension that builds. Once I decided to try and hit several different kinds of horror, I knew I wanted to lean into what the “rules” of a slasher were. And if you follow the rules, you may survive.

Bucket List – I really wanted to round off this feature anthology series with something that felt more like home for our viewers. Especially when it came to the “big finish”. In Bucket List, it’s not a microcosm of people fighting for survival. There’s an asteroid. We are all out of here. I know in a lot of movies it shows what the raiders and looters are doing when people think survival is going to happen… but what about when you just give up and what to spend some time with your friends? What about those quiet, low-key moments where you are searching for a sense of normalcy while simultaneously knowing, it’s all over after this. The idea of three best friends having bucket lists to fulfill for each other on their final days made sense to me. Not in a sad way, but when you finally give up, how would you want to spend your last day on the planet if you got to hang out with your two favorite people in the entire world?

The cast on this project is EPIC! Justin Matthews, Johnny Donovan, Ryder Owens, Noah Asli, Jayden Marcos, Evan Jordie, Carter Woods, Vincent Grey, and Trevor Brooks!  Give us a hint at what it was like to work with this awesome group.

The cast is some of the casting of my dreams! Literally all of these guys are insanely talented. I’ve worked with them on other projects in one way or another and they always bring their A-Game and know how to have fun while they do it. I really enjoyed working with every last one of them and the fact that they are all smoking hot in their own ways is always a plus.

You’re pretty cool, but you couldn’t have done something like this alone. Give a shout out to anyone on the crew or behind the scenes who helped make this epic project happen!

My crew is amazing. From having an amazing videographer in Dr. Octopussy who’s as knowledgeable as he is a smartass, to our dope production assistants Benvi and ASGmax Exclusive Trevor Harris who always bring good energy and a desire to keep learning the ins and outs of being on the other side of the camera, I’m honestly blessed. Not to mention the quiet riot himself, Dane Strokehouse, as our on site audio engineer making every squish, suck and line sound oh so good!

The team on the back end, including my friend who is eternally pushing me to do better in the most helpful ways. Jeremy Babcock is seriously one of my saving graces. Just when I think I may be “tapped out” he’ll give me the beginning of an idea and BOOM another can of worms is opened up in the best way.

Share with us any funny stories from on the set of each of these films.

Honestly, the fake blood. Anyyyyy time there was fake blood on set, it was surprising how excited everyone got to play in it. Thank you Hollywood grade props peeps that I know. And also, Harold the Fish from Bucket List – you were a stinky fellow, but thank you for the laughs we got from Carter Woods chasing his scene partners around with you. Also, huge thank you to Derek Kage, you starred in my last feature and were the unseen voice in this one. With us eternally in spirit hahaha.

Will we see a sequel? If this concept does well, do you see this project as something that could continue in the future? Or something like it?

The future is always open. My biggest hope is that the fans enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making and helping with it.

Not to sound dramatic, but whether it’s this or the other creative things that I do, I’m an artist. My biggest hope is that the things I create really make somebody out there happy. And if they do well enough, I would LOVE to explore these ideas more.

Final thoughts about writing, directing, and creating such a unique project for ASGmax and our fans?

Thank you everyone who had a part in this, from the cast to the crew. Having this much support and being able to focus on being creative is what made this such an amazing experience and gave me the ability to make such fantastic content.

I know it is a huge endeavor especially to do an anthology like this, but seriously, thank you. And I hope everyone enjoys Jeremy Babcock’s first onscreen debut, next time, he promised it would be a bukkake or something, I think.
